I've already tried the "Migrate files and settings from one computer to another" feature of Vista, but it won't let me transfer the files. I realize that the settings may not transfer, but what I'm really interested in is the pictures of my family that I may have saved on it. Question: Is there any way I can

File transfers
Run the Wizard first on the old PC, the one whose settings & files you want to move. The older PC can be running Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT, 2000 or XP. On Windows XP click START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>FILES & SETTINGS TRANSFER WIZARD. The wizard actually has quite clear instructions as you go.

You could use the Transfer files and settings wizard to backup the stuff you need to then do a clean install of XP and restore those settings.

Direct cable connection
So, if I switch the two hard drives, with A as slave and B as master and boot, can I use xp's "Transfer files..." program to move all my settings to hard drive B. Hard drive B has two partitions, one 9.75gb for the os, and one 46gb for programs files and data. I want to move at least my settings onto the new xp.
